Background

John Carr, CPA
John Carr, CPA
Principal, TWS Tax Advisory PLLC
CPA, State of Washington

John Carr is a CPA with more than three decades of corporate tax experience, most of it spent at the VP Tax and Chief Tax Officer level inside public and private companies. That work has spanned the full range of what a corporate tax function actually does: provision under ASC 740, transfer pricing strategy and defense, IRS controversy from examination through Appeals, and the cross-border mechanics of §482, treaty analysis, and withholding.

His experience spans senior tax roles at ProQuest, Affinia, Covidien, Bruker, and iRobot — all public companies — followed by ICBD Holdings, a privately held global enterprise, and most recently Grant Thornton, where he served as Chief Tax Officer. In several of these roles, including Chief Tax Officer positions at Grant Thornton and Bruker, he built and led the tax function directly.

John holds an MBA in Finance and a BBA in Accounting, both from the Stephen M. Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan.

TWS Tax Advisory PLLC was founded to bring that same experience directly to companies that need senior tax leadership without adding a full-time executive.
